Beautiful People – Holiday Edition!

Starring: Brand from my novel Anen:  Flight of the Ravensguard
1. What kind of holidays do they celebrate, if any? He likes celebrations as much as anybody; still being young and ‘full of juice,’ to coin a phrase, any reason to celebrate sounds good to him. He celebrates Orasday, a day set aside each year to worship and celebrate the One God. He loves midsummer and midwinter’s days, as well as birthdays, weddings, etc.
2. What are they most thankful for?
He’s just happy to be alive 🙂
3. Do they have any family traditions? When his parents were alive, they would exchange gifts on midwinter’s day. 4. What is their most memorable holiday memory? He met Tameena, whom he proceeded to befriend and grow up with.
5. What is the most memorable gift they have ever received? On his tenth birthday, his father gave him his sword. His father had once been a Ravensguard; a soldier in a special group whose personally serves the Dagonetian king. Brand is now a Ravensguard as well, and serves his king with his dead father’s sword.6. Do they consider it important to be with family during celebrations? As his parents are dead and he has no other family that he knows of, he couldn’t say. He misses them terribly, especially on holdays, and looks with longing at families who are able to be together on such occassions.
7. Do they usually wait till the last minute to purchase gifts, or do they buy them ridiculously early?
Seeing as how Brand belongs to a medieval fantasy world, he doesn’t necessarily have to worry about the Christmas Rush. 😉 But when he’s giving a gift, it’s usually something touching and simple.
8. Favorite Christmas song? For fantasy authors, is music a part of their celebration?
Music is definitely part of traditional celebrations in Anen. Brand loves to dance and can play reed pipes with vigor.
9. Do they celebrate for religious reasons?
Orasday is definitely religious. Even the temple priests celebrate, and many parents like to christen their children on that day.
10. How do they celebrate the beginning of the new year?
With dancing well into the night! The celebration involves lots of music, lots of flowers, lots of competitions (i.e. horseback racing, acrobatics, foot racing, dueling, wrestling, etc.) and a lot of laughter. Brand is a favorite with the younger girls, and always makes sure to dance with them.

NaNo Update: My wordcount is 42,010! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, if you haven’t seen these, writers and Nano-ers, you MUST. They are HILARIOUS – and so ridiculously accurate!!!
